Statistics

Statistics

ACC manages about 1.8 million injury claims each year and we collect as much information about those injuries as possible. Injury statistics are a vital tool for injury prevention. They help us analyse claim trends, identify priority target areas, and develop programmes to reduce the number and cost of injuries to New Zealanders. We also use injury statistics to gauge the effectiveness of our injury prevention work.

Injury statistics produced annually

Our annual statistics catalogue the cost, type and frequency of claims for a very wide audience. This includes health practitioners, academics, employers, trade unions, injury prevention and accident rehabilitation researchers, and university and high school students.

Frequently requested statistics

We also produce Frequently requested facts and stats on common injuries in New Zealand. If the figures you are after aren’t here, try the Summary of injury statistics below or email statistics@acc.co.nz.

For Media enquiries see Media Team contacts.

Understanding ACC statistics

Although ACC statistics provide a good snapshot of injuries in New Zealand, they do have some limitations and exclusions. For information on how to interpret our statistics, see How to read ACC statistics.
