ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices

More suited to large and medium-sized employers, the ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices programme is a great way for employers to receive discounts on the standard ACC WorkPlace Cover Levy in return for putting structures in place to manage and improve workplace safety.

ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices programme at a glance

  • The organisation is assessed by an independent auditor using our set audit standards
  • Depending on the audit results, there are three levels of discount: primary (10%), secondary (15%) and tertiary (20%)
  • Levy discount will apply for 24 months, at which time an employer would need to reapply in order to stay in the programme.

Eligibility for ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices programme

There are no fixed rules regarding who can apply; however, the programme is more suited to larger businesses that have:

  • an annual payroll over $450,000
  • more than 10 full-time staff.

Applying for entry into the ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices programme

This is a simple four-step process:

  1. Conduct a self-assessment
  2. Complete and return the ACC4028 ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices application form (PDF 54K)
  3. Get an independent workplace audit – your client chooses an approved independent auditor at ACC’s expense
  4. We’ll take all of this information into consideration, and let you know whether you have been accepted into the programme and the level of discount that may apply.

It’s that simple!

If your client doesn’t quite meet all the minimum entry requirements

If they do not meet the minimum entry level requirements because of a minor reason, which in the auditors opinion can be easily resolved they will be given 30 days to make the necessary improvements and have it verified. The auditor who undertook the initial audit would be required to do the verification audit.

If your clients are then successful in completing the verification audit within the 30 days and pass the audit, they will be awarded a discount according to the standard achieved.

What happens if they fail the audit?

If they fail the audit, they can reapply after 12 months from the date of the audit. They will have to complete a self-assessment before applying.
