Interventions

The IPM guidance provides evidence based recommendations on a wide range of interventional procedures for the management of persistent pain. Definitions of what constitutes "interventional pain management (IPM) procedures" vary, but these procedures are all invasive to some degree.

Some of the more invasive interventions carry significant risks and tend to be used only when less invasive treatments have failed. Other interventions, for example injections, present relatively few risks and are frequently used in clinical practice. IPM procedures are carried out by a range of different professional groups and may be used independently or in conjunction with other therapies.
