Civil Defence says the focus is now shifting from the response phase to recovery. Public services are being restored in Canterbury, with people in the region receiving support from welfare staff and building inspectors, despite the disruption caused by strong and frequent aftershocks. There is also a strong focus on psychosocial needs. A psychosocial support strategy is being developed with welfare and health agencies, including information for first responders.
Property
Having received the appropriate clearances we are reopening Trust House for business tomorrow. If any staff want to remain at Northwood then that is fine. Charles Luney requires the stairwell to be fixed up so remains shut.
Claims
As at 8 September, we had received approximately 390 claims that specifically mentioned the earthquake. These represented approximately 50% of all claims lodged in this period in Christchurch City, Waimakariri and Selwyn Districts.
Single government website
A one stop website linking to central and local government agencies and others responding to the earthquake has been established www.canterburyearthquake.govt.nz.
