Our Plan to keep you safe and healthy at work

Find out about the plan we’ve developed with WorkSafe New Zealand to keep New Zealanders safe and healthy at work.

We have joined with WorkSafe New Zealand to develop the ‘Reducing Harm in NZ Workplaces Action Plan’ to help keep New Zealanders safe and healthy at work.

The Plan aims to achieve positive health and safety outcomes and to support the government’s target of reducing serious injuries and fatalities in the workplace by at least 25% by 2020.

Working with businesses

Working closely with businesses, industry sectors and government agencies, we’ll deliver targeted programmes that help prevent injuries and harm and we’ll also tackle the causes behind these.

Areas of focus

We’ll focus on industry sectors that have the highest numbers of workplace injuries and look at what the common causes of these injuries are.

Industries with high injuries

These industries have the highest number of severe injuries, fatalities and harm at work:

  • agriculture
  • construction
  • forestry
  • manufacturing
  • health sector workforce.

Common causes of injury

The most common types of injury:

  • slips, trips and falls
  • working in and around vehicles
  • body stressing
  • respiratory health risks.

We’ll also focus fundamental changes that support health and safety culture, like education, incentives, safety leadership and worker engagement and participation programmes.
