Injury cost calculator

Every time a worker suffers an injury, there is an impact on your business: finding someone to fill in, training the replacement, and less efficient use of time. But do you know the real impact on your financial bottom line? Do you know the real cost of an injury?

How to use the calculator

There are two sections within the injury cost calculator:

  • Case studies
  • Create your own scenario

Case studies offers examples of the types of injury people have while at work, on the road, playing sport, or at home, and the cost impact on their employer.

Build your own scenario allows you to add in your actual costs from your company and calculate the cost impact of those injuries on your business.

Note

This injury cost calculator does not show the effect that workplace injuries may have on ACC work levies, as a result of the introduction of experience rating from 1 April 2011.

Under experience rating, eligible employers and self-employed people, who have lower-than-average injury rates, with better-than-average rehabilitation or return-to-work rates, may get a discount on their levies. Those with worse-than-average claims experience may get a loading on their levy.

Experience rating takes into consideration the claims history of individual businesses to determine any adjustment to their work levy.

Fewer injuries mean lower levy costs.
