The following water safety research has been commissioned by ACC:
- A comparative study of drowning and water rescue databases in New Zealand (PDF1.4M) - Report providing a snapshot of computer-based databases that capture information relating to drowning and water rescue incidents in New Zealand.
- Systematic review of drowning interventions and risk factors and an international comparison of water safety policies and programs (PDF594K) - Study that addresses several aims of objective 4 of New Zealand’s Drowning Prevention Strategy including: the maintenance of our knowledge of risk factors; knowledge of national and international water safety research; and of existing water safety interventions, programmes and policies.
- An examination of the contribution of specific water-based activities to recent trends in death by drowning in New Zealand (PDF200K) - Study examining the contribution of specific water-based activities to recent trends in drowning fatalities in New Zealand for the period 2000 to 2007, and identifying policy and programme areas for further development.
- Risk factors for non-drowning injury in recreational swimming (PDF394K) – Study measuring the effect of a number of independent risk factors in order to develop targeted prevention strategies.
- International comparison of injury deaths: Drowning (DOC73K) - Report comparing New Zealand drowning rates, causes and definitions with those of other countries.
- Proposal for a survey of territorial authorities and other relevant agencies regarding uptake of the New Zealand Water Safety Signage Standard (DOC50K) – Proposal prepared in fulfilment of Aim 3 of the project ‘Identification of risk factors for non-submersion swimming injury’.
