Confirm your status as a tax agent with us

Released 13/02/2018

We’re changing how agent and advisor organisations access their clients’ levy payer accounts through our new online business customer tool, MyACC for Business. To make sure you have the right permissions, you’ll need to confirm whether your organisation is a registered tax agent with Inland Revenue (IR).

Only registered tax agents will be able to self-link to their clients’ accounts in MyACC for Business. Advisor organisations need to provide an ACC1766 form or client authority for each client as evidence of authority to act.

Changing the way we work with agents and advisors

How to register your status as a tax agent

If your organisation is an agent or advisor with IR, you can fill in a form to confirm its status.

Register as an agent or advisor

As part of this process, you’ll need to attach a screenshot of your agent organisation’s myIR business account. The screenshot needs to show:

  • organisation name
  • address
  • IR (GST) number

To get to this screen in myIR:

  • Log in to myIR
  • Click on 'business'
  • Click on the 'tax preparer' tab
  • Select 'manage agency'

If you need an example, you’ll see a screenshot of the registration form when you select ‘tax agent organisation’.

If you don’t register your status as a tax agent

If you don’t register to confirm your organisation’s status as a tax agent, we’ll give your organisation an advisor account in MyACC for Business. This means representatives of your organisation won’t be able to self-link to your clients’ levy payer accounts. They'll need to submit an ACC1766 form or client authority before linking to a new client.
