Physiotherapy New Zealand (PNZ) outcomes pilot

Released 13/06/2022

PNZ has invited physiotherapy clinics that treat musculoskeletal conditions to participate in a two-year pilot capturing health outcome measures. Physiotherapy clinics who would like to participate in the pilot have been asked to submit an Expression of Interest by Friday 17 June 2022.

The health outcomes pilot aims to assess the viability and benefits of capturing patient reported outcome measures (PROMS). It will collect the measures at different stages of their treatment and will be used to better understand the value of physiotherapy services in improving the health status of clients.

This pilot is being led by PNZ, however we also have a shared interest in collecting PROMS and getting a better understanding of client health status changes when receiving physiotherapy. To recognise this shared interest, we have been working with PNZ on the development and design.

For the first 15 months of the pilot we’ll receive some the collected health outcomes data. The data will help us better understand client health outcomes, what’s important to the client and the effectiveness of the service provided during a client’s recovery journey. Please note, we won’t be receiving any data that identifies the physiotherapists or the clinics, and the data won't be used to manage the performance of physiotherapists or clinics. This is one of four trials we are running to look at how we can collect and use health outcome measures in the future.
