Cost of Treatment Regulations pricing to increase 1 June 2024

Released 24/04/2024

The amount we pay providers to treat client injuries under the Cost of Treatment Regulations (CoTR) is reviewed every two years to make sure:

  • payment rates mean that treatment is affordable for injured New Zealanders
  • costs to ACC are affordable, sustainable, and consistent
  • payments are not too dissimilar across the health and ACC system.

This year the Government has approved the following:

  • 3.56% rate increase for dentists, medical practitioners and specialists
  • 4.17% rate increase for combined medical practitioners and nurse consultations
  • 4.36% rate increase for hyperbaric oxygen treatment and radiologists
  • 4.89% rate increase for audiology, counselling and specified treatment providers
  • 7.90% rate increase for nurses, nurse practitioners and combined nurse and nurse practitioner appointments.

The rates do not reflect the Pay Equity settlements (for Nursing and Allied Health) because the review of the Cost of Treatment Regulations finished before the Pay Equity settlements were finalised. This will be a factor to consider in future reviews.

Steps to take

Services delivered on and after 1 June 2024 should be invoiced at the new rates. Please note that invoices during this week will need to include both old and new rates if you have consultations on either side of 1 June.

If you invoice us at the old rates for services provided on or after 1 June, you will be paid at the old rates.

For providers using a practice management system

If you use a practice management system, your PMS vendor will advise when an update for the new rates is available. If you are uncertain, please check with your PMS vendor.

For providers billing manually or through ACC online services

You can continue to invoice us for services as you do now, ensuring you use the new rates for services from 1 June.

Updated pricing information sheets

The information sheets listing the Cost of Treatment Regulations amounts per provider type will be published by 8 May on our paying for your services webpage.
