ACC has appointed David Iverson into the role of Chief Investment Officer effective 9 June.

The announcement follows ACC’s international search to replace former CIO Paul Dyer, who announced his upcoming retirement in late 2024.

As Chief Investment Officer and member of ACC’s Executive, David will play a key role in continuing the success of ACC’s $49 billion Investment Fund, while contributing to ACC’s Financial Sustainability strategy for the benefit of all New Zealanders.

“We’re delighted with David’s appointment,” ACC Chief Executive Megan Main says.

“His deep investment expertise, commercial focus and thoughtful leadership style will set the Investment team up incredibly well, and he will be a valued member of ACC’s executive leadership team.”

David is an existing member of ACC’s Investment leadership team and has headed ACC’s successful Dynamic Asset Allocation programme for the last four years. David has depth of institutional knowledge and breadth of market experience following a successful career at the Guardians of New Zealand Super Fund, building high performing teams and producing superior investment returns.

“David has proven to be an exceptional investor with a sophisticated understanding of investment markets and strategy,” ACC Board Investment Committee Chair Mark Cross says.

“His investment acumen, leadership capabilities and expertise will lead the Investment Group into the future and continue to build on the fund’s 30 years of outstanding investment performance for New Zealanders.”

Paul Dyer will continue in his role until 6 June to support David’s transition.

About ACC’s Investment Fund

ACC’s $49 billion Investment Fund is designed to meet the future costs of accidents that have already occurred. Our investments reduce the risk that future levy payers will have to pay for past injuries.

Returns from the fund help meet the costs of the ACC scheme and ensure levies aren’t higher than they would otherwise need to be.

ACC’s Private Markets portfolio has investments as diverse as community housing, solar power and partnerships with iwi, and provides funding that helps support infrastructure across New Zealand.

ACC’s Investment Fund is guided by our Ethical Investment Policy and we’re a signatory to the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), which sets out six principles to provide an accepted and credible framework for incorporating ESG issues into ACC’s investment decision-making processes and ownership practice.
