ACC begins monthly reporting on Turnaround Plan
A new monthly report will track ACC’s progress towards new performance targets set out in our Turnaround Plan.
Minister for ACC Scott Simpson announced the release of the first report today, highlighting January performance results.
ACC Turnaround Plan – January monthly report
A key highlight is a reduction in Long-Term Claims Pool (LTCP) growth to 1.8 per cent, the lowest it has been in 10 years (in January 2025 it was 14.5 per cent).
The LTCP measures the number of clients receiving weekly compensation for more than one year. ACC has been focused on supporting long-term clients with less serious injuries like sprains and strains back to independence and LTCP growth rates have continued to decline since February 2025.
Chief Executive Megan Main says we’re focused on putting clients first with care that leads to lasting recovery, ensuring injured people get the right level of support at the right time.
“Staying on the scheme longer than necessary has negative impacts for our clients, their family, community and employer. It also puts pressure on the ACC scheme,” she says.
“We want to make sure we’re there for New Zealanders who need our help and support. For some people, that might be a lifelong journey. For others who’ve sustained less serious injuries, we want to support them in their recovery and get them back to independence.”
Other key delivery highlights from the January Turnaround Plan report include:
- Year-to-date claim costs were $4.9 billion – $251 million lower than budget
- The percentage of clients receiving weekly compensation who returned to work or independence within 10 weeks was 60.9 per cent at 31 January, the highest since 2023/24
Megan says the monthly progress reports will help ensure the organisation remains on track to deliver on our priority areas.
“January’s report is encouraging and reflects several months of performance improvements and the sustained efforts of teams across ACC, which we’ll continue to build on,” she says.
ACC Turnaround Plan progress reports will be published on the last business day of every month and will be available on the Resources page of our website.
About the ACC Turnaround Plan
Our Turnaround Plan is underpinned by three overarching priorities, which will drive improved rehabilitation and organisational performance, and more cost-effective support for injured people.
The priorities of the Turnaround Plan are:
- Putting clients first with care that leads to lasting recovery
- Getting New Zealanders back to work and independence
- Resetting ACC and getting the organisation back to basics
The Turnaround Plan responds to the recent independent review into our claims management approach and rehabilitation performance, and an updated Letter of Expectation by Minister for ACC Scott Simpson.
It also addresses recommendations in a Board-commissioned review into our organisational culture and a Treasury-commissioned review of our investment function.
Alongside the release of the Turnaround Plan in January, we also announced a new strategy, Statement of Intent and Service Agreement that will support our performance turnaround over the next four years.
