2026/27 Turnaround Plan released to lock in progress
Today, ACC released its 2026/27 Turnaround Plan setting out the next phase of work to ensure New Zealanders get the right support sooner, improve rehabilitation outcomes, and strengthen Scheme sustainability.
ACC released its initial Turnaround Plan in January 2026, to drive a stronger focus on getting back to basics and better supporting people to recover from injury. This next phase of the plan builds on that work, setting out the actions ACC will take this financial year to turn early gains into lasting improvements.
ACC Board Chair Jan Dawson says the improved client outcomes delivered through the Turnaround Plan shows early progress, while also reinforcing the need for sustained focus.
At year end, more people are returning to work and independence faster, and the long-term claims pool has decreased, with reductions in the number of people with less serious injuries relying on support long-term.
“While these results show ACC is moving in the right direction, they also underline that the turnaround is not complete, with more work needed to achieve key performance targets. This second plan is about turning early gains into lasting change.
“The Board will continue to support and challenge ACC to deliver even better outcomes for clients and transparently report its progress,” says Ms Dawson.
ACC Chief Executive Megan Main says she is proud of the progress ACC has made over the last year, following a long period of declining rehabilitation performance.
“As my time as ACC’s Chief Executive comes to an end, I’m grateful to have worked alongside so many people dedicated to improving rehabilitation outcomes for all New Zealanders. I am confident the Turnaround Plan provides a clear roadmap for ACC into the future,” says Ms Main.
Ms Dawson says the 2026/27 Turnaround Plan reflects the Board’s ongoing commitment to accountability and sustained improvement.
“Better recovery outcomes are a key to a stronger ACC today and a sustainable Scheme in the future. This plan keeps ACC focused on what matters most – helping injured New Zealanders return to work and independence.”

The turnaround plan outlines activity ACC will progress to improve performance this financial year. These actions will also support delivering on the priorities of our new strategy and we will measure success through targets outlined in ACC’s Service Agreement and Statement of Intent.
