Four individuals were sentenced in Hamilton District Court for their role in obtaining fraudulent access to the MyACC platform to submit fake travel reimbursements.

The individuals pled guilty to Accessing a Computer System for a Dishonest Purpose and were sentenced to home detention.

In November 2023, ACC identified that our MyACC client self-service platform was being fraudulently used, and teams worked with the New Zealand Police to conduct a thorough investigation.

Michael Frampton, ACC Deputy Chief Executive Service Delivery welcomed the sentencing and said it sent a strong message that fraud won’t be tolerated and people committing fraud will be caught.

“Defrauding ACC isn’t a victimless crime and we have zero tolerance for it. It undermines the fairness of the Scheme, impacts those who genuinely need our support, and puts ACC’s future at risk. For these reasons, we’re significantly increasing the capacity of the team dedicated to detecting and investigating fraud.”

“Annually ACC processes over two million claims with the majority of payments to injured New Zealanders and their healthcare and rehabilitation providers seeking ACC funds or reimbursements.” he says.

Most of our clients and providers do the right thing but if they don’t, we’ll take decisive action
