ACC welcomes two new Board members

ACC Board Chair Dr Tracey Batten is pleased to announce that Minister for ACC Hon Matt Doocey has appointed Dan Buckingham and Jan Dawson to the ACC Board.


ACC Board Chair Dr Tracey Batten is pleased to announce that Minister for ACC Hon Matt Doocey has appointed Dan Buckingham and Jan Dawson to the ACC Board.

“The respective skills and experience Dan and Jan bring is a tremendous boost to the leadership and governance of ACC, placing us in a strong position to ensure we continue to make a positive difference for all New Zealanders,” Dr Batten says.

“I’m delighted to welcome them to the Board and look forward to their contribution to the direction of ACC.”

Dan joins ACC having served in leadership roles across governance, business and sport. Dan also brings significant lived experience, strong networks and knowledge of the disability sector.

The former wheelchair rugby player was part of the New Zealand team that won gold at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games before captaining the side in Beijing 2008.

As CEO of Able, Dan currently champions the goal of equal access to audiovisual media. Previously, as CEO of Attitude Pictures, Dan helped change perceptions of disability through visual and media content.

Dan also serves on boards of Screen Production and Development Association and Disability Media Collective, and has served on boards of Drug Free Sport NZ, Attitude Trust and New Zealand Wheelchair Rugby.

Jan is currently the chair of Ports of Auckland where she has overseen a major transformation, resulting in an increase in safety and a significant return to profitability.

Jan has extensive experience in governing large organisations, including as Chair of Westpac New Zealand, Deputy Chair of Air New Zealand and Director of AIG Insurance New Zealand, Beca, Goodman Fielder and Meridian Energy. 

Jan also previously held the Chair and Chief Executive position at KPMG New Zealand, following a 30-year career specialising in audit, consulting and accounting services in the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.
