Backing ‘The Big Wins’ to help young people enjoy sport

We’re proud to support ‘The Big Wins’, a campaign led by our friends at Sport New Zealand, which aims to raise awareness of the value of sport and the benefits participation brings to our young people.

For young people, the big wins in sport aren’t just on the scoreboard.

Sport contributes so much more than winning or losing.

Participating plays a crucial role in the wellbeing and overall development of tamariki and rangatahi, extending from physical skills development to academic achievement, acceptance and belonging and the opportunity to make new friends.

When everyone in the sport system – administrators, managers, coaches and parents – work together, they can deliver quality experiences that encourage young people to stay in sport for life and reap its many benefits.

The big wins are closely connected to the ‘Balance is Better’ philosophy, which is the way that everyone can help make sure as many young people as possible get to benefit from the value of sport.

The bigger picture

ACC injury prevention leader Kirsten Malpas is pleased to see Sport New Zealand continue to focus on the bigger picture with sport participation.

“We fully support Sport New Zealand’s work in this space to ensure that our tamariki and rangatahi are seeing the big wins in their sport,” she says.

“We’re proud to partner with a number of our national sports and help them in promoting performance and preventing injuries.

“’The Big Wins’ captures the ethos that sport is much more than just who wins or loses, it’s about creating bonds, learning skills, helping others and developing that lifelong passion for sport.”

Join us in making sure young people take away all the benefits of participating in the sports they love.
