February Turnaround Plan report
We've released our latest monthly Turnaround Plan report today, highlighting February performance results.
ACC Chief Executive Megan Main says February’s report demonstrates the positive impact of the organisation’s ongoing work to deliver better outcomes for New Zealanders and protect the Scheme’s long-term sustainability.
ACC Turnaround Plan – February monthly report
“We’re focused on supporting injured New Zealanders return to work and independence faster,” Megan says.
“These results reflect a significant amount of work across ACC, and from our partners, and means injured New Zealanders are getting the right level of support, at the right time.”
Key highlights from the February Turnaround Plan report include:
- Improved return-to-work rates
- The growth rate of the long-term claims pool (LTCP) falling below one per cent
- Financial savings across key areas
Return-to-work rates across all durations improved in February. For example, the percentage of clients receiving weekly compensation who returned to work or independence within 10 weeks was 61.3 per cent, up from 59.8 per cent in February 2025.
The growth rate of the LTCP continues to reduce and, at the end of February, was at 0.8 per cent – the lowest rate in more than a decade.
The LTCP measures the number of clients receiving weekly compensation for more than one year.
ACC is also on track to deliver significant savings in social rehabilitation spending, an area that’s seen significant cost growth over the last 10 years.
February’s report shows the organisation is travelling in the right direction, but there is still more to do, Megan says.
“It’s important to remember that we cannot do this alone. I’m asking all New Zealanders to play their part by keeping themselves and their communities safe and by playing an active role in their recovery,” she says.
“We need support from the health sector, from providers, from employers and from all New Zealanders, to get injured people better faster and ensure we protect the AC Scheme for the long term.
“We know that a well-supported return-to-work programme, and staying active and socially connected while recovering, help people recover faster.”
ACC Turnaround Plan progress reports are published on the Resources page on the last business day of every month.
About the ACC Turnaround Plan
Our Turnaround Plan is underpinned by three priorities, which will drive improved rehabilitation and organisational performance, and more cost-effective support for injured people.
The priorities of the Turnaround Plan are:
- Putting clients first with care that leads to lasting recovery
- Getting New Zealanders back to work and independence
- Resetting ACC and getting the organisation back to basics
The Turnaround Plan responds to the recent independent review into our claims management approach and rehabilitation performance, and an updated Letter of Expectation by Minister for ACC Scott Simpson.
It also addresses recommendations in a Board-commissioned review into our organisational culture and a Treasury-commissioned review of our investment function.
Alongside the release of the Turnaround Plan in January, we also announced a new strategy, Statement of Intent and Service Agreement that will support our performance turnaround over the next four years and our goal to have a high-performance culture.
