Experienced board director James Miller has been appointed Chair of the ACC Board Investment Committee, effective 1 February 2019.

Mr Miller has been an ACC Board member since 2013 and a member of the Board Investment Committee during that time. He is Chair of NZX, a Director of Mercury Energy, NZ Refining and St Cuthbert’s College, and a former Board Member of the Financial Markets Authority. Mr Miller was appointed as Chair of the ACC Board Investment Committee at the Board’s meeting on 24 January 2019.

ACC Board Chair Dame Rebstock notes Mr Miller’s role as Chair of NZX Limited. ACC and NZX have robust arrangements and processes in place for managing conflicts of interest. These arrangements and processes are consistent with the conflicts management requirements of the Crown Entities Act 2004.

Mr Miller’s appointment follows the announcement on 20 December by ACC Minister Iain Lees-Galloway of two new ACC Board members, Dr Tracey Batten and John Brabazon. Their appointments are effective from 1 February. They replace retiring Deputy Chair and Board Investment Committee Chair Trevor Janes and Professor Des Gorman (who retired from the Board in September).

“On behalf of the Board I would like to thank and acknowledge Trevor Janes and Des Gorman for their contributions to the ACC Board,” Dame Paula says.

“ACC benefited greatly from Des’ medical expertise, experience and insights. He was a strong advocate of the need for ACC to work more closely in partnership with health providers.

“Trevor has twice been appointed to the ACC Board, serving almost 20 years in total. This is a remarkable contribution to not only ACC; but to Crown Entity governance. During his time on the Board, Trevor was committed to ensuring ACC meets the needs of customers and to the ongoing sustainability of the Scheme.”
