ACC appoints Sid Miller as Chief Executive

Sid Miller OBE has been appointed as ACC's next Chief Executive.

Sid has more than two decades of public and private sector leadership and governance experience, including leading large organisations through periods of transformation, growth and cultural change. 

ACC Chair Jan Dawson says Sid has been appointed following an international recruitment process. He will return home to New Zealand from working internationally to take up the role from 21 September. 

“The Board has worked with ACC’s Minister to set ambitious targets for the organisation to put clients first, get injured New Zealanders back to work faster and restore the Scheme’s financial health,” Jan says.

“ACC has implemented the first phase of its Turnaround Plan and achieved much stronger performance in the last 12 months. But much remains to be done and achieving the organisation’s targets will require a further sustained lift in performance over coming years.

“The ACC Board is delighted to secure a candidate of Sid Miller’s quality to lead the organisation into the next phase of the Turnaround Plan. He is a respected leader with a track record of delivering results in complex operating environments, while maintaining a strong focus on people, organisational culture and long-term commercial performance.

“Sid has deep leadership experience across the public and private sectors, including as Chief Executive of EQC, where he led the organisation through a period of transformation, strengthening its capability to serve New Zealanders.

“He has previously held executive leadership roles within ACC with a focus on customer service and claims management. He understands ACC, the importance of it delivering for clients, and the role of technology in improving service outcomes.”

Jan says Sid’s international experience, combined with his understanding of New Zealand, would bring valuable perspectives to the role at an important time for ACC.

“Sid is a values-driven leader with a focus on delivering results. He understands the importance of building trust, an inclusive and transparent culture, and working effectively with staff, service providers and the clients ACC serves.”

Jan thanks outgoing Chief Executive Megan Main for her service. She says Megan has led operational improvements in ACC and will leave the organisation at the end of July with improving performance metrics and well positioned to continue its Turnaround Plan. 

Sid will relinquish a range of advisory roles and directorships across the international insurance industry to take up the ACC role. He will retain one directorship on the Board of AA Insurance.  

Sid will start on 21 September and will be available for media interviews from that date. In the interim, the Deputy Chief Executive, Corporate and Finance, Stewart McRobie, will serve as Acting Chief Executive.
