Woman pleads guilty to defrauding ACC
A 32-year-old woman has pleaded guilty in the Hamilton District Court to charges relating to defrauding ACC.
The ACC health provider pleaded guilty to five representative charges of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception to the total value of $240,966.28 and one representative charge of accessing a computer system for a dishonest purpose.
The offending took place between 1 April 2023 and 31 May 2025. The charges carry a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.
The woman was remanded on bail until sentencing on 24 November 2026.
ACC Deputy Chief Executive Service Delivery Michael Frampton says ACC’s decision to take this prosecution reflects the seriousness of the offending.
“The vast majority of clients and providers we engage with are doing the right thing and meeting their obligations,” Michael says.
“Where that’s not the case, ACC won’t hesitate to take action and prosecute when there’s evidence of fraudulent or dishonest behaviour.
“We’re focused on ensuring injured New Zealanders get the support they need, while protecting the sustainability of the scheme for everyone.”
