Audiologists to lodge work related hearing loss claims

Released 01/06/2022

From 1 June 2022, audiologists will be able to lodge claims with us for work related hearing loss.

After listening to feedback from the sector, we’ve recognised the need to simplify the process of lodging claims for Occupational Noise Induced Hearing Loss (ONIHL). At the moment audiologists complete the Audiometric report for hearing loss. Their client then visits a GP to lodge the claim with us, before returning to an audiologist for treatment.

Updating our systems to allow audiologists to lodge ONIHL claims will mean clients can access care up to 30 days sooner and will benefit from saving the added cost of a GP consult.

GPs will still be able to lodge hearing loss claims. In the instance that hearing loss is attributed to an injury that isn’t work related, GPs will still need to lodge the claim on behalf of an audiologist. We hope that this change recognises the different ways clients interact with healthcare services and improves accessibility to work related hearing loss treatment.
