Invitation to community hui – Home safety assessment and modification opportunity
In October and November, ACC is hosting a series of community hui to discuss an exciting new initiative aimed at reducing fall-related injuries for older adults.
Falls are the most common cause of injury in New Zealand, with one in three people over 65 injuring themselves in a fall each year, rising to one in two for those over 80.
In this new initiative, we are looking to work with suppliers in selected regions to deliver and test the impact of a home hazard assessment and safety modification programme for those at risk of falls. A University of Otago study found home safety modifications such as the installation of handrails and grip mats reduced falls in the home by 26% per year.
At this hui, you can:
- hear more about the initiative and its goals
- learn how your organisation can get involved
- receive information on how the tender process will work and how to apply for a contract
- connect with other community partners.
Who should attend
These sessions are open to any community organisations interested in tendering for this programme of work, to support older adults, kaumātua and kuia to maintain their independence and wellbeing as they age.
