Support your older patients to Live Stronger for Longer
Falls are the most common cause of injury in New Zealand, accounting for nearly 40 percent of all ACC claims. As we age, the risk of experiencing a fall increases, with one in three people over 65 injuring themselves in a fall, rising to one in two for those over 80.
Many people think falling is part of the ageing process, but the great news is most falls are preventable. Research shows that regular strength and balance training is one of the most effective and scientifically proven ways to reduce the risk of a fall.
Community Strength and Balance classes
That’s why ACC has launched the ‘Live Stronger for Longer’ campaign. From Monday 9 June, we’re raising awareness of Community Strength and Balance classes across the country and encouraging older adults to find a class near them. These fun, friendly classes are designed to help older adults build the strength and stability they need to stay independent, mobile and doing the things they love.
The campaign will be displayed across a range of channels, including digital screens located within health clinics and medical centres throughout the country.
How can you help
Encourage your patients to visit the Live Stronger for Longer website and find a class near them. It’s a simple, effective way to support their long-term health and help them live stronger for longer.
