    Who can provide these services?

    Elective Surgery Services suppliers

The Elective Surgery Services contract is held by suppliers who undertake surgical treatment at a facility that:

    • holds current certification with the Ministry of Health under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001; and/or
    • holds current accreditation under the NZS 8164:2005 Standard for Day-stay Surgery and Procedures.

    Named providers

Suppliers may only utilise the services of specialist medical practitioners who are named providers under their contract. A named provider is either:

    • a medical practitioner who holds a relevant vocational registration or an appropriate limited scope registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or
    • an oral surgeon or maxillofacial surgeon vocationally registered with the Dental Council of New Zealand.

If you want to provide elective surgery services to our clients, you will first need to register with ACC as a health provider and then apply to become a named provider under a supplier.

    Contracted and regulation surgery

For detailed information on contracted vs regulation surgery, please refer to the ‘Contracted and regulation surgery’ section in the Elective Surgery Services Operational Guidelines.

This is the funding route that can be used by suppliers who hold a current Elective Surgery Services contract.

This is the most common funding route used where contract holders are paid the contracted price specified in the Elective Surgery Services contract. This price covers the surgical treatment and the six weeks’ post-discharge from hospital care. Clients cannot be charged any additional co-payment for the services.

This is the funding route that can be used for non-public hospital suppliers who do not hold a current Elective Surgery Services contract.

We will contribute 60% of the contracted cost for the surgery. It is important that clients are made aware of the option to have their surgery fully funded through a contracted supplier. We have a legal requirement to inform the client that surgery can be performed by a contracted supplier at no cost to them, even though this may mean they receive treatment from a provider different than the clinician they originally consulted.
