Little Matters gains momentum across Aotearoa

Released 03/08/2026

Little Matters is a new initiative that encourages adults to take small, everyday actions that contribute to safe, supportive environments for children. It aims to build awareness of the important role caregivers, whānau, and communities play in children's lives and make prevention more achievable for everyone.

Since launching in May, Little Matters has continued to gain momentum online and in communities across Aotearoa.

Communities are getting involved

Community-led activity is emerging across several regions, particularly through ACC’s Hikitia! For Our Future prevention partners. Organisations and communities are incorporating Little Matters into parenting programmes, community events, wānanga, and social service networks.

Positive engagement on social media platforms

The online community has grown to more than 8,000 followers across Instagram and Facebook with people actively sharing their ideas and reflections, helping to normalise conversations about the everyday actions that support healthy relationships.

Negative sentiment remains low and manageable. A small number of disclosures have been appropriately managed through established moderation and support pathways.

Use the new Little Matters toolkit

The Little Matters toolkit in now available and designed to help you make the kaupapa your own and weave it into your mahi with whānau and communities.
