Mental health Day Programme pilot launching in January

Released 30/11/2023

Beginning in January 2024, we will partner with the Wellington Depression Recovery Trust to pilot Whakamātūtū - a new option for our clients in the Wellington region who have a covered mental injury and are presenting with moderate complexity.

Whakamātūtū is a 6-week day programme for people with moderate mental injury diagnoses offered by the Wellington Depression Recovery Trust. This service provides comprehensive, holistic support, embedded with Te Whare Tapa Whā principles.

Whakamātūtū incorporates;

  • individual and group therapy
  • social rehabilitation
  • physical rehabilitation
  • strategies to integrate back into everyday life, post-programme.

Clients must be able to attend the Day Programme every day, Monday to Friday 9:30am-4:30pm, for 6 weeks.

Currently this pilot programme is only open to clients in the greater Wellington region who meet the eligibility criteria and are managed by our Partnered and Supported teams in Wellington.

To participate in the programme, clients must be referred by their ACC case manager. If you have a client who would benefit from participating in the Day Programme, please contact their ACC case manager to initiate a referral.

We will be piloting the programme through to January 2026 to determine if an integrated, holistic community-based service is an effective option for clients with a moderate mental injury.

For questions about the Day Programme, contact your client’s ACC case manager. Not sure who’s managing their claim? Contact our Claims team at 0800 101 996.
