Update on design of secondary care services

Released 04/02/2026

We’re beginning the detailed design phase of developing an improved service delivery model for secondary care services. To ensure the sector is part of the design process, we’ll be seeking your feedback through short surveys, meetings with suppliers and professional bodies, and the Musculoskeletal Secondary Care Clinical Advisory Group.

The first survey will be emailed later this month to suppliers working in Clinical Services, Elective Surgery Service, High Tech Imaging and ICPMSK, to seek your feedback on key aspects of the detailed design.

This work is the next step in our efforts to strengthen how we commission secondary care services and is an important part of our Turnaround Plan. The way we plan, purchase, and monitor these services is crucial to ensuring an effective and sustainable Accident Compensation Scheme.

Turnaround Plan

Late last year we finalised the conceptual design for secondary care services and shared that with the sector at our secondary care market engagement event. The conceptual design is the result of extensive analysis and engagement with the sector to identify pain points, inefficiencies and risk areas throughout the client’s rehabilitation journey. It was informed by feedback from the sector and input from subject matter experts and the Musculoskeletal Secondary Care Clinical Advisory Group.
