Improvements made to Function Assessment for the Sensitive Claims Service

Released 28/08/2026

We’ve made improvements to the Function Assessment for sensitive claims kiritaki (clients) to make it easier to support kiritaki with vocational rehabilitation, in response to feedback we received.

Function Assessments are undertaken to help determine someone’s ability to work and are often done as part of a Specialist Cover Assessment. Work can be a valuable component of a patient’s rehabilitation. It can keep them stay socially connected while maintaining their income and overall confidence. It can also provide useful physical activity and a sense of purpose, which all contribute to a better recovery.

The updated Function Assessment now includes additional questions, which will provide our Recovery Partners with more robust information so they can make better decisions about vocational rehabilitation early in the process. This may reduce follow-up requests to providers for clarification and prevent the need for further assessment.

To ensure you’re using the updated Function Assessment, download the Specialist Cover Assessment report template from our website:

This report template should be used for all Specialist Cover Assessment and Function Assessments going forward.

To help providers understand how to complete the new Function Assessment questions, we will be updating our educational resources and developing Frequently Asked Questions. More information will be provided soon.
