Updated guidance on Function Assessments

Released 03/11/2026

We recently made some improvements to the Function Assessments section of the Sensitive Claims Service Specialist Cover Assessment Report to better support vocational rehabilitation and work readiness planning for kiritaki (clients). The changes are designed to make the process clearer for providers and help ensure ACC has the information needed, reducing the need for follow-up clarification or further assessment where possible.

The updated Function Assessment now includes a new section (section 13). The questions in section 13 are intended to support vocational rehabilitation and work readiness planning for kiritaki who are receiving weekly compensation, including loss of potential earnings. You only need to complete section 13 when ACC specifically asks you to.

The questions in sections 11 and 12 are used to assist ACC in establishing eligibility for weekly compensation, including loss of potential earnings.

To help you understand how to use the updated report and what to consider when completing a Function Assessment, watch our updated Sensitive Claims Functional Assessments Quick Guide video.

In the video, Dr. Marthinus Bekker, ACC Psychology Advisor, explains the Function Assessment process and some key factors to consider.
